Veterans Day Assembly and "Patriot's Pen" Contest Winners

The Student Council Association of Meadows of Dan Elementary School sponsored a Veterans Day program on November 9, 2017.  Fourth and fifth grade music students under the direction of Ms. Victoria Stephens performed "Proud of Our Veterans" for guests and students.

Sixth and seventh grade students entered the "Patriot's Pen" contest and the top four essays were read by students during the assembly.  Braedon Augustine and Dustin Burress, both seventh graders, and Marissa Montgomery, a sixth grade student, all received ten dollars from an anonymous donor, while the top essay writer, Hannah Wood of the sixth grade, received fifty dollars.  Hannah Wood's essay was entered into the district competition held by the local VFW and subsequently placed third.

The guest speaker for the Veterans Day program was Trey Cox, and the program closed with a PowerPoint of local veterans and taps being played by Isaac Wood of the seventh grade.

On Tuesday, November 21, 2017,
Quarter Master Roy McAlexander, of the Meadows of Dan VFW post, awarded Hannah with an additional $50.
